Restaurant Lai Kee 来记西刀鱼丸 in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Johor Bahru

My first visit to Lai Kee after spotting their famous fish balls on Johor Kaki's article. I visit Lai Kee at around 11am on Sunday. Surprisingly, it is not that crowded yet. The coffee shop on the next door seems to be collaborated with Lai Kee where as customers who come to eat fish balls noodles can also take the seats at the coffee shop too.

Lai Kee starts their business since 1987. Their fish ball is made by using Wolf Herring/Silver Bar Fish (ikan parang). Basically there is nothing preservative adding in the fish balls but salt only. So, it is actually very fresh and healthy to be consumed.
How to order?
Firstly, choose from either dry kolok type or soup type.
Secondly, choose the ttype of mee you would like to have.
Lastly, feel free to ask for add-on for the fish balls and others.
From my experience of trying, I could say that the fish balls are just nice like common fish balls. But the most impressed part is the soup base. The soup base is really very tasty! It is definitely worth to try this out.
I have chosen kueh teow soup and I do really love this so much because of the tasty soup.
This is the dry kolok kueh teow with fish balls soup. The specialty of the dry kolok kueh teow is the combination of the soy sauce and the homemade chili sauce. The chili sauce tasted to be alike with belacan taste.
I would suggest you to order some fried tau fu pok or fried fish paste while waiting for the main dish. You might need to wait for around 15-20 minutes when there are crowds.
No idea how to find them?
